Here’s What You Need to Know About Dynamic Expression Lines

1.  Dynamic Expression Line Basics

Why does the skin wrinkle? Well, that depends. As the name suggests, dynamic expression lines are caused by repeated facial expressions as well as the loss of collagen and elastin. Facial muscles are different from other muscles within the body because they’re directly attached to the skin, allowing us to make expressions, whether that’s frowning, smiling, or laughing. These wrinkles can appear as crow’s feet, laugh lines, forehead creases, or a combination thereof. Other than never showing any form of expression, which is obviously not realistic, there’s no way to prevent them. Dynamic expression lines are among the four different kinds of wrinkles and folds that surface as we age. Other types of wrinkles include permanent elastotic creases, crinkle lines, and gravitational folds.

    2. Expression Lines Versus Regular Wrinkles: What’s the Difference?

Dynamic expression lines are only present during facial movement but smooth out when the muscle is relaxed. However, over the years, they can evolve into static (aka regular) wrinkles that are present even when the facial muscles are relaxed. They tend to deepen with chronological age (otherwise known as intrinsic aging) due to a loss of elasticity. Static wrinkles can be frustrating, even for those in their 20s and 30s who look older than their age. Extrinsic aging factors such as poor diet, lack of sleep, smoking, excessive alcohol, and too much unprotected sun exposure (a whopping 90% of aging is caused by damaging UVB rays) only exacerbate wrinkled skin.

      3. Treating Dynamic Expression Lines

Injectables can relax and smooth dynamic expression lines caused by repetitive facial movements. For example, Botox can even slow down the process of turning them into static wrinkles because it freezes facial muscles to prevent you from contracting them in ways that deepen lines and wrinkles — especially around the eyes, lips, and forehead.

Treatments should be repeated every three to four months to help you maintain results. Note that cosmetic procedures such as laser resurfacing don’t help deep movement lines because muscle contraction will continue to perpetuate creasing of the skin.

      4. The Injectable Alternative

While getting injectables is a personal choice, we came up with the perfect alternative to Botox — and you don’t even have to go to the dermatologist’s office.

        5. Are You Familiar With Cryo?

A cryotherapy facial involves having liquid nitrogen (aka dry ice) pumped all over the surface of your face for a few short minutes to give the skin a more radiant, youthful, and even appearance. Well, SiO’s Cryo System takes things a bit further — and for a fraction of the price. The Crydrop tool works in tandem with your favorite serum to deliver deep hydration while promoting a fresh and smooth complexion. It also works to fight visible signs of aging and puffiness as soon as you wake up. To ensure that you get the best results possible, we put together three simple facial massage techniques that stimulate circulation, reduce the appearance of puffiness and redness, and improve the appearance of wrinkles and elasticity.
