In between those trips to the spa, we rely on store-bought face masks like the trendy Korean face mask or the charcoal face mask that has spawned so many funny (and painful-to-watch) videos on social media these days. Yes, you want to be careful when using certain peel-off masks so you don’t do more harm than good, but pretty much all of these masks offer some pretty compelling benefits. Face masks can:

Combine those properties with the lactic acid in milk—which exfoliates dead skin cells to reveal the smoother, clearer skin underneath—and you’ve got a great recipe for bright, youthful, glowing skin.

Ingredients:

  • Whole rolled oats
  • Whole or 2% milk
  • Cinnamon (optional)

Recipe:

  1. Measure 1 tablespoon whole rolled oats into a mixing bowl.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons milk.
  3. Sprinkle in ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional).
  4. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and even.

How To Apply:

  1. Wash your face and neck with warm water and an oil-free cleanser to remove makeup and open pores.
  2. Apply the mixture to your face, neck, and décolleté, and let it sit for twenty minutes.
  3. After the twenty minutes, wash off the mask with lukewarm water.
  4. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel.

Ingredients:

  • Coconut oil
  • Oatmeal
  • Warm water

Recipe:

  1. Measure ¼ cup warm water into a mixing bowl.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon coconut oil and stir until completely melted.
  3. Sprinkle in 3 tablespoons of oatmeal.
  4. Stir until the ingredients have formed a paste.

How To Apply:

Ingredients:

  • Cooked (not dry) oatmeal
  • Plain yogurt
  • Honey

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ½ cup boiling water and ⅓ cup oatmeal.
  2. Stir to make sure the water permeates the oatmeal.
  3. Let the mixture sit for two minutes.
  4. Measure in 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 egg white.
  5. Mix the ingredients until the yogurt, honey, and egg white are completely dissolved.
  6. Let the mixture cool if it’s still hot to the touch.

This apple & oatmeal face mask is great for all skin types because it gently exfoliates while soothing irritation and smoothing wrinkled patches. Here’s what you’ll need.

Ingredients:

  • Oatmeal
  • Honey
  • Applesauce
  • Rose water

Recipe:

  1. Measure 2 tablespoons applesauce into a mixing bowl. You can make your own applesauce if you like, but store-bought sauce is just fine too.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon honey.
  3. Microwave the mixture for five seconds at a time until honey begins to dissolve.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons oatmeal and mix well.
  5. Add two or three drops of rose water.
  6. Mix well
  7. Let cool.

Ingredients:

  • Oatmeal
  • Almond oil
  • Banana
  • Honey
  • Egg

Recipe:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup boiling water and ½ cup oatmeal.
  2. Mix it and let sit for two minutes.
  3. Stir in 1 tablespoon honey and 1 egg.
  4. Make sure the honey and the egg completely dissolve.
  5. Mash ½ a banana and mix it into the bowl.
  6. Measure out 1 tablespoon almond oil and fold it into the mixture.
  7. Let cool until warm to the touch.

Ingredients:

  • Oatmeal
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Honey

Recipe:

  1. Measure 3 tablespoons oatmeal into a mixing bowl.
  2. Pour in ¼ cup hot water.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon honey.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Measure 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar and whip into the mixture.
  6. Let cool.
