Droopy Eyelids Got You Down?

Natural Eyelift

Nothing feels worse than when a coworker approaches your desk and says, “Wow, you look so tired!” A droopy eyelid can have you looking like you spent the night tossing and turning, even if you went to bed at 8 PM.  As you age, your skin may sag as it loses its elasticity and firmness, especially on the thin skin of your eyelids.  Sagging may occur due to the natural aging process or even just from plain old gravity. Curse you, science!

Basset Hounds are super cute, but let’s leave the droopy eyelids to them. Here are some tips on how to get rid of hooded eyelids and have your coworkers commenting on how fresh you look in no time.

Facial Yoga

Yoga isn’t just on a mat anymore; it can happen in your mirror too.  Prepare your best Tyra Banks smize and get ready to work out those eyelids.  We promise these droopy eyelid exercises will be much easier than going to the gym!

The Wiggle

  1. Start by raising your eyebrows and then closing your eyes.
  2. With your eyes still closed, lower your eyebrows.
  3. Repeat this ten times.

The Pull-Up

  1. Place your index fingers horizontally on your forehead directly above your eyebrows (like you’re making fake finger eyebrows).
  2. Move your eyebrows down with your fingers.
  3. Try to raise your eyebrows back to their normal spot while resisting your fingers.

The Flirt

  1. Make your eyes wide.
  2. Wink and hold for 1 second.
  3. Repeat this 50 times on one side.
  4. Repeat on other eye.

Kitchen Spa

Your all natural spa awaits you in your own home! These easy to find ingredients might already be in your fridge and can help tighten skin around your eyelids in a pinch.

Cucumber

We’ve all seen a movie where a glamorous woman in a fluffy robe lounges with cucumbers on her eyes, but does that really work or is it just a Hollywood myth? Apparently, according to The Huffington Post, the cucumber trick does work. “If puffiness is accompanied by irritation, home remedies like cucumbers or chamomile tea can help reduce the inflammation and swelling,” says Dr. Gregory Nikolaidis. The antioxidants in the cucumber lessen irritation and the coldness helps to reduce puffiness.  As Dr. Nikolaidis also recommends, placing a cool chamomile tea bag over your eyes can also reduce swelling.  Steep two tea bags in hot water and allow to cool before placing on your face. You’ll feel like a movie star, and you didn’t even have to leave the house.

Egg Whites

For a quick fix try dipping a q-tip in egg whites and brushing it on the crease of your eyelid.  Close your eye and allow the egg to dry.  Egg whites are known to tighten and firm the skin.  They contain albumin, a protein that is used for cell regeneration and repair. Egg on your face, but in a good way!

Ice Water

Try washing your face with cold water or rubbing ice cubes around your eyelids.  Cold water restricts blood vessels and tightens the skin.  This one’s almost too easy.

The Price of Plastic

If you’re thinking of taking the surgical route to tighten your eyelids, start saving now. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of eyelid surgery was over $3,000.  During this surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, a doctor uses a scalpel or cutting laser to remove excess skin and fat (and possibly muscle) from your eyelid. It’s important to note eyelid surgery is not a one-time permanent fix.  As you continue to age your skin will continue to lose elasticity and be affected by the sun’s rays.  Some patients find they need another eyelid surgery as early as five years later.  If you’re feeling bold (and didn’t just eat lunch), you can find videos of blepharoplasty on YouTube to see exactly how it’s done.

To Botox or Not To Botox

Technically, Botox is a non-invasive procedure and while it seems easy, there are many risks to be considered. According to Today.com, Botox may even have the opposite of the desired effect:  “Drooping of the eyebrows can happen even in the best of hands; it can occur if too much is injected in one place,” says Dr. Misbah Khan. The overuse of Botox can even weaken the muscle and cause the skin to sag even more.  Potential side effects may include eye dryness, headache, and pain or swelling at the site of injection.  Though less likely, it is possible for the botulinum toxin to spread to other parts of the body and cause botulism like symptoms including muscle weakness and difficulty breathing or speaking.  Receiving Botox injections is not a decision to be made lightly, and there are plenty of other noninvasive options to tighten your eyelids before needles need to get involved.

SiO’s Eye & Smile Lift Patches

If the surgical price isn’t right, that YouTube video didn’t scare you away, or injections just aren’t your thing, more cost effective options are available.  Try using SiO’s Eye & Smile Lift patches for an easy, quick, and safe treatment. These silicone patches reduce the look of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines all in the course of one night.  With nightly use you will find your skin smoother and more hydrated as these patches gently compress your skin and prevent it from creasing while sleeping.  Put your patches on when you go to sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and lifted.  Your coworkers won’t know how you did it!

Each patch is reusable 10 times. Just place the patch on your eye lines and when you’re done place it back in its enclosed storage shield.  No stitches required and no need to empty out your savings account.  Unlike, surgical procedures that take days to recover from, SiO patches are non-invasive and give you results with just one use and overtime.  Once you’ve lifted your eyelids and smoothed out your smile lines try using SiO’s patches for brow, neck, and facelifts.  These pads are allergy tested and dermatologist approved, so no need to bat any eyelashes. Unless of course, you’re feeling yourself after your newly lifted eyes, then definitely go ahead.
